From trivandrum I could get a bus anywhere and decided after meeting another serial travelled india that I was more than capable of making my way to kanuyakumari on public transport without a tour.
So that’s what I did, realising that most people could read English even if they could not understand a word I said or my pronunciation of any of the words, I prepped my notebook with my destinations my bus times and all sorts of information that would allow me to point and go. I had learnt some basics of the language but this was beyond me…
There was a fantastic wooden palace on route to Kanyakumari, Padmanabhapuram, and I googled the name again for this post because it is on of the few palaces I have seen on the trip that made me say out loud now this is a palace. made of Teak in most places with a whole teak trunk forming one of the main foundations for the original building. I was amazing to look through and a miracle to have been able to have seen it preserved from the 16th century.

Worth a look, if you get a chance. This day was my first trip on a normal bus and it was an epic one, I went through the typical experience of no one really knowing where the bus starts or where its going. The online timetable is accurate but just don’t expect anyone on the ground to back it up the other trick is finding where to board the bus. This is when the notebook came in handy, but for the love of accurate information ask at least three people your question. I found out the hard way no one will tell you I don’t know, they would rather and often do just make it up.
The southern most tip of India. When I finally got there was amazing to see, I would have loved to have stayed a night and seen the sunset and sunrise on the same beach. The spot has some interesting history behind it some folk tales and others part of the stories of some of the religious gods that many people in this region believe in.
